Furloughed but not forgotten

This article is written by Zing365, a training partner of Keychoice.

Many businesses have taken advantage of the Government’s furlough scheme, to receive some financial support during these challenging times. With the furlough portal (Coronavirus Retention Scheme) going live, should we now be looking at ways to support those staff members that have been furloughed? Indeed, they are still part of the team and will, hopefully be back to normal working in the near future.

We have received a number of requests for advice from clients on the subject of whether training can continue for employees who have been furloughed. There certainly has been some mixed messages about the subject, so we thought it would useful to understand what we can and can’t do as responsible employers.

The bottom line is that furloughed employees are able to engage in training, as long as doing so does not provide services to, or generate revenue for, or on behalf of their company. This means that furloughed staff could (if they choose) use the time whilst furloughed to continue their own Continued Personal Development and learn new skills.

Where training is undertaken at the request of their employer, furloughed employees are entitled to be paid at least their appropriate national minimum wage. In most cases, the furloughed payment of 80% of an employees regular wage, up to the value of £2,500, will be sufficient to cover these training hours.

So how can we help?

We have a number of options to support all your team including furloughed employees.

Live Online Learning

We have developed Live Online Learning sessions that can be accessed remotely and cover a huge range of topics, including Compliance, Technical, Sales, Management and Wellbeing. It’s important to note that these Live Online Learning sessions are not just webinars – for example.

Our trainers do not run ‘talk and tell’ sessions where they simply talk over PowerPoint slides – we have all sat through too many of these!

We can include countless interactive elements, such as polls, group activities and chat, individual questioning and breaks to aid concentration levels. We believe that online training is just as valuable and important as face-to-face training.

On average, Zing365 Online Learning sessions include some form of delegate participation every 2-3 minutes.

E-learning

We also have a comprehensive e-learning platform which offers simple, intuitive access to over 200 up-to-date compliance, technical and business courses which test and evidence knowledge. Our platform, can help your staff attain and maintain professional insurance and financial services qualifications, as well as benefiting from focused business, sales and leadership skills development.

Coaching

We can also provide individual 1-2-1 coaching and mentoring online for those that require specific remote working needs or assistance.

If you would like more information around how we can help you support all your staff, including those that are furloughed please contact us.
